META ADS
DUBAI

Facebook and Instagram don’t wait for someone to search for you — they put you in front of people who haven’t heard of you yet, and build demand before the searching starts.

Interrupting Intelligently — Not Waiting To Be Searched For

Google catches people who know what they need and type it. Meta reaches people who don’t yet know they need you — and there are far more of them.

The fundamental difference is that a person on Facebook or Instagram didn’t ask for your ad. Which is why the message that works in search fails here: an ad saying “call now” to someone who has never heard your name gets scrolled past instantly.

What works is giving first — an idea, a piece of information, a solution to a problem they recognise — and asking second. Creative here isn’t decoration, it is the targeting: the image and the first line decide who stops and who scrolls on.

Three Stages — and None Gets Skipped

The single biggest waste of a Meta budget is speaking to a stranger with the message meant for a ready buyer. Each stage has its own message, objective and measurement.

01 · Awareness

People Who Don’t Know You Yet

Content that gives value or sparks curiosity, with no direct ask. The goal here is that they stop and watch, not that they buy.

02 · Consideration

People Who Engaged But Haven’t Decided

They watched the video or visited the site. This is where proof belongs: a result, a client’s words, a comparison that removes their hesitation.

03 · Conversion

People Who Came Close and Didn’t Act

Remarketing with a clear offer and a deadline. The cheapest and highest-converting layer — because they already know you.

The practical rule: the narrower the stage, the higher the conversion and the lower the cost — but there is no third stage without the first.

Most accounts I review spend the entire budget on the third stage — “buy now” ads aimed at a cold audience that has never heard of the brand. The result is high cost and weak conversion, followed by the wrong conclusion that “Meta doesn’t work in our sector”.

Meta does work, but it needs building. An audience that watched thirty seconds of your video is far cheaper to target than a stranger, and you create that audience with the first stage.

Which is why I always start by building the top layer even when it shows no sales in its first week — because that layer is what makes week four cheap.

Six Elements — From Strategy to Creative to Measurement

Creative, targeting and measurement are three sides of one triangle. Weakness in any of them collapses the campaign however strong the other two are.

01.

Strategy & Audience Building

Defining the segments, the message for each stage and how budget splits between them — before a single ad is designed. A campaign that starts with design ends with the wrong audience.

02.

Creative & Copy

Images, video and copy written for the platform rather than carried across to it, in Arabic and English — with at least three versions per ad, because testing is what reveals the winner.

03.

Advanced Targeting

Custom audiences from your site visitors and mailing list, and lookalike audiences built from your actual customers — far sharper than interest targeting on its own.

04.

Remarketing

Returning to people who visited your site, watched your videos or engaged with your page — the layer that produces most of the conversions in practice.

05.

Full Measurement Setup

Pixel installation, server-side conversions API and event tracking. Without this the campaign runs half-blind — and you pay for the blindness.

06.

Weekly Testing & Optimisation

Testing creatives, audiences and offers, and retiring whatever has burnt out before its price climbs. A Meta ad fatigues far faster than a search ad.

Meta or Google? — The Question Is Wrong To Begin With

The two channels don’t compete; they operate at two different moments in a buying decision. And most people who ask me this need one of them now and the other in two months.

Google Ads

Captures Existing Demand

The searcher typed their need, so they’re ready. But the number of people searching is capped by how much demand already exists in your market.

  • Very high purchase intent
  • Faster conversion from week one
  • Suited to urgent and local services
  • Higher cost per click in crowded sectors
Meta Ads

Creates Demand That Didn’t Exist

It reaches people who aren’t searching at all, so your potential audience is far larger — but you need to build trust before you ask.

  • Wider reach at lower cost per impression
  • Strongest channel for building a brand
  • Ideal for visual products and offers
  • Needs more time and constantly fresh creative
My practical advice: if people are already searching for your service by name, start with Google. If you’re selling something people don’t know exists, start with Meta. And I’ll tell you which fits you in the first session — even if the answer is that you don’t need Meta right now.

Four Placements — Each With Its Own Behaviour

The same ad produces completely different results depending on where it sits. Which is why each placement gets designed for, not copied into.

Instagram Feed

Square or vertical, high quality. The image governs everything here; the copy comes second.

Stories & Reels

Vertical, full screen. The first three seconds decide everything, and most people watch with sound off.

Facebook Feed

Tolerates longer copy and fuller explanation. Best for services that need persuading rather than dazzling.

Click-to-Message

Ads that open a conversation immediately. The strongest performer in the Gulf, where people prefer asking before buying.

Five Stages — and When to Expect Each

Meta is slower than search to show a result, because it builds an audience before selling to it. This is the real timeline, unembellished.

Discovery & Segmentation

Day one

Who your ideal customer is, what stops them buying, which segment we start with — and which one we deliberately postpone.

Measurement Setup

2–3 days

Pixel, conversion events and domain verification. This stage is dull and invisible to the client, and skipping it ruins everything after it.

Creative & Launch

4–7 days

Designing the ads and writing copy in at least three versions, then launching on the first stage of the funnel.

Learning & Optimisation

First two weeks

The platform needs data to learn. Here we retire weak creatives and scale winners — and we don’t judge the campaign before this stage ends.

Scaling & Remarketing

From month two

Once an audience of viewers and visitors has formed, the cheapest and highest-converting layer begins — and this is where the real result shows.

Hands-On Experience Across Every Sector

Visual sectors succeed on Meta faster than others, but even professional services succeed — provided you change the message rather than the budget.

What Everyone Asks Before Starting

Straight answers with no overselling — if an answer puts you off, better now than a month into disappointment.

I tried Meta ads and they didn’t work — why?
The most common reason is that you spoke to a cold audience with a ready-buyer message, or that measurement wasn’t set up so the platform learned from the wrong signal. The third reason is stopping the campaign after a few days, before the learning phase finished. All three are fixable, and I’ll know which is yours after reviewing the account.
What’s the practical difference from Google Ads?
Google catches people searching for their need; Meta reaches people who aren’t searching. If people already search for your service by name, start with Google. If you’re selling something people don’t know exists, start with Meta. Most successful businesses use both — though not necessarily in the same month.
Do I need professional video?
You don’t need cinematic production, but you do need good visual content. The irony is that phone-shot video sometimes outperforms polished production because it reads as more honest. What matters is the first three seconds — and I’ll write the script if you don’t have a team.
When will I see actual results?
Engagement from the first days, but real conversions start in week three or four and improve noticeably in month two once the remarketing audience has formed. Judging Meta after two weeks is judging it before it has started.
Are ads created in Arabic and English?
Yes, with separate campaigns, copy and creative for each. Dubai is a multinational market, so one translated message reaches both audiences weakly instead of reaching one of them strongly.
Who owns the ad account and the page?
You do, from day one and in your name, with the pixel installed on your own site. If the engagement ends, the accounts and the audiences built stay with you — and those audiences are a real asset, because rebuilding them takes months.
